Day A1 - Geography
of Asia and Writing in Chinese
Black tempera paint and round
brushes.
Day A2 - The Mulberry Tree and Paper Cutouts
Use colored paper to make paper
cutouts (or make paper from pulp if you are really ambitious)
Day A3 - The Emperor's Clay Army and Sculpting Flowers
Use either purchased clay or bread dough
clay (recipe included)
Day A4 - Tea Party and discussion on Confucius (Reader's
Theater). Write a tale around one of Confucius' proverbs.
Arrange the room for a tea party, get out
the colored napkins and cups (Styrofoam or ceramic). Serve one or more decaffeinated teas
of your choice. Can add honey or sugar for sweetener. Students can write their
tales in this environment.
Project A - Chinese Lantern Festival and Sweet and Sour
treats. Eat rice with chop sticks. (Directions for using chop sticks are
included.)
Make paper lanterns with riddles, eat rice
with chop sticks, (have a chop stick eating contest), and finish with Sweet and Sour
treats.
Day B1 - Taoism and Scroll Painting (flowers)
Water color paints or thinned tempera
paints and a calligraphy pen or thin black marker.
Day B2 - Ancestor Worship and the Three Perfections
(painting, calligraphy, and poetry)
Use water colors for painting picture and
a calligraphy pen or thin black marker.
Day B3 - Comparing Silk and Cotton and the Chinese pagoda (colored
pencils)
Two 4" X 6" swatches of both
silk and cotton per student or partners, matches and candle, dish soap and bowls for
washing, magnifying glasses.
Day B4 - Chinese New Year: Wear red, draw dragons, write appreciation notes and send them in red
envelopes, if possible.
Red envelopes (does a store have any
leftovers?) or envelopes colored red, stationary for appreciation notes or computer
generated notes with dragon graphics.
Project B: Examination Day - A
very important day in China. Every family wants their student to do very well on the
test. It will bring honor to the family. |
