Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry takes place during the 1930's in rural Mississippi.   The lives of Cassie Logan and her African-American family are ruled by the racism of the white people around them.  The young Cassie tells her story in extreme detail, since everything in the story has to do with her life and innocence.  The story moves with growing suspense in the struggle Cassie and her family has with the surrounding prejudice.
